nyssaal:

Nyssa had dealt with death before, with loss before, but she still wasn’t prepared for this. When she lost Sara the first time it hurt more than anything, but she was sure Sara was still alive and that one day she would find her again. She knew Sara was strong, and wherever she had gone she would have kept herself safe. This time she had no idea that she would loose Sara. It was just a short trip to Starling to see some people that she was missing, with no thought of danger. However not too longer after Sara left Nyssa got a message from one of her contacts that her lovely Canary had stopped chirping.

She remembered all to well the chilling feeling that entered her heart when she heard the news. It was as if all of her went numb and her heart shut out anything and everything to save herself from the pain. She went and told her father immediately, who then called a meeting for the League that Nyssa asked to be excused from. She didn’t want to hear the words ‘Sara is dead’ again. Everything she wore was black, and her father was kind enough to give her someone to kill each day so she didn’t fall into a pit of sorrow. She just needed to keep moving. A few assassins that heard of Sara’s death went sent to Starling for reasons Nyssa didn’t care to know, but assumed they were to find Sara’s killer. Nyssa knew she wasn’t the only one who cared for Sara, and part of her wanted to go with them but she feared she would destroy the entire city in rage. It was best for her to stay away.

With a job just finished, Nyssa was in a hotel room she hadn’t been in long enough to be familiar with in a country she never bothered to learn the name of. She was watching crap tele in a language she only half knew when she heard her phone ring. She reached over and when she saw the contact on the screen her heart stopped. She picked up her phone with shaking hands and answered the call. “Sara?”

As the call connected, Sara couldn’t help a small gasp of surprise at the familiar voice on the other end of the line. She’d barely been paying attention to who she was calling, almost expecting to have called Laurel or Felicity or Diggle, but Nyssa’s voice was hardly an unwelcome sound. She’d been so certain that she would return to Nanda Parbat relatively quickly after she’d made her sure father was okay after hearing of his injuries, and knowing she was halfway across the world right now made her suddenly feel incredibly alone.

“…yeah Nyss,” she replied quietly after a few brief moments of collecting her thoughts, “It’s me.”
